Privacy Notice
Privacy, with the services kept separate
This notice explains how the main friendship.day website handles information and how its practices differ from the ad-free today.is.friendship.day sharing experience.
Scope of this notice
This notice applies to the public website at friendship.day, including its articles and any tools that link to this notice. It does not replace the separate notice shown on today.is.friendship.day.
today.is.friendship.day does not display advertising. It uses first-party, pseudonymous analytics to measure its sharing journey, offers a browser-level analytics opt-out and explains its retention periods in its own notice. An analytics choice made there applies to that sharing experience; it does not automatically set preferences for friendship.day, and the reverse is also true.
Information the main site may process
Reading public content does not require an account. Like any website, our hosting and security providers may process technical request data needed to deliver and protect the service, such as an IP address, requested URL, date and time, browser information and security signals.
If you email us, we receive the address you use and the information you choose to include. If a future feature asks for additional information, the feature will explain what is required and why before collection.
- We do not ask visitors to upload address books or friend lists.
- We do not need sensitive profile information to provide public articles.
- We ask visitors not to place confidential or unnecessary personal information into creative tools.
Analytics and service improvement
If analytics are enabled on friendship.day, we use them to understand aggregate readership, diagnose problems and improve navigation and content. The specific provider and available controls will be identified in this notice or in the site’s consent interface before the relevant processing begins.
We aim to minimise identifiers, limit retention and avoid collecting the contents of personal messages merely to measure site use. Analytics on the main site are not the same system as the sharing analytics described by today.is.friendship.day.
Advertising, Google AdSense and consent
As of the date above, Google AdSense is not enabled on friendship.day, and no Google advertising consent-management platform is active on the main site. We do not claim that advertising cookies or Google consent controls are already in use.
If we introduce AdSense or another advertising service, we will update this notice when it goes live, identify the relevant provider, explain the cookies and data involved, and provide the choices required by applicable law and platform policy. Where required, we will use an appropriate consent-management platform before requesting consent for personalised advertising or related measurement.
Advertising on friendship.day will not change the ad-free status or analytics choices of today.is.friendship.day unless that service clearly announces a separate change to its own users and notice.
Retention and security
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose described, to maintain security, resolve a request or meet an applicable obligation. Different providers may maintain shorter backups or security logs under their own schedules.
We use proportionate technical and organisational safeguards, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Please avoid sending information we do not need.
Your choices and requests
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask about, access, correct, delete, restrict or object to certain processing. You may also be able to withdraw consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal.
Email hello@friendship.day with the service involved and the nature of your request. We may need enough information to verify that we are responding to the correct person, but we will not ask for excessive identification where it is unnecessary.
Children and young people
The public site is intended for a general audience and does not knowingly request sensitive profiles from children. Creative tools should not be used to publish a child’s full name, contact details, precise location or other information that could put them at risk.
If advertising or age-sensitive functionality is introduced, we will apply the additional protections and disclosures required for the relevant audience before launch.
Changes and contact
We will revise this notice when our data practices materially change and update the date at the top. An earlier version may be retained when useful for transparency.
Questions about this notice can be sent to hello@friendship.day. Please specify whether your question concerns friendship.day or today.is.friendship.day.
